There's no formal threshold for when a baby name becomes "mainstream" in America, but the SSA's top 1,000 is a useful proxy. To make it, a name needs to be given to at least about 230 babies in a year. In 2025, 93 names crossed that line for the first time — meaning they were below #1,000 in 2024 (or never recorded) and made it in 2025.
